Last week for januaury we went to collect oil! so we wento block by block to collect in groups

oil was collected to turn into soap. and that was our environment project! more pic's down...

some unknown day, where we went to science centre

it was a long journey and by the time we reached there we were like half dead ._.

but the exhibits there were.. mmm shld i say enjoyable?

so yah, we enjoyed quite alot

Overall, the Open House was an enjoyable one.
This year, MEC is situated at the block furthest away from the hall unlike the past years.
Being so far from the crowd inevitably means that there is less people coming over to take a look at the booths. However, the responses from the ones which came to view our booths were quite positive.
Let's hope next year's Open House would be even better and more successful than this year's!

512, the day of the Great Sichuan Earthquake which killed many and left many homeless. The earthquake was felt as far away as Beijing (1,500 km away) and Shanghai (1,700 km away), where office buildings swayed with the tremor. Official figures state that 62664 are confirmed dead, 358816 injured, with 23775 listed as missing. The earthquake left about 4.8 million people homeless, though the number could be as high as 11 million. It was the deadliest and strongest earthquake to hit China since the 1976 Tangshan earthquake, which killed at least 240,000 people.
The great Sichuan Earthquake could be felt even at somewhere as far away as Russia.
The provinance with most deaths was Sichuan's Mianyang, 19758 deaths till now.

Doesn't this astonishing figures scare you? Just think, if Singaporeans feel afraid and at lost when we feel the tremors from earthquakes occuring in neighbouring countries, the people who are experiencing the earthquake in Sichuan must've felt one hundred, no, one thousand times more frightened than us. Students who are attending lessons diligently, businessmens who are in their meetings, housewifes and babies who are at home watching television, they are all just gone, in a couple of minutes.

The earthquake made the headlines the very next day. Pictures of the thousands of school bags left, pictures of the people who were buried, all the these pictures tug the corner of my heart. I didn't dare to watch the news for a couple of days, afraid of receiving more bad news. It might've been many days after the earthquake, but the scene is still etched in my mind, fresh as can be.

There was a mother who was in an awkward and uncomfortable position, but continued to stay that way just so she could protect her baby. She might've been taken away, but her love for her baby remains. When the baby was found, a mobile phone was found with the baby. The mobile phone reads: Dear baby, if you survive this earthquake, don't forget that mummy loves you. A message with just a few words, told us how deep and great her love was. There was no paragraphs of bombastic words, just a simple message of love.

We might be many miles from Sichuan, but together our voice will definately reach them!

16 May 2008, another wonderful outing to Sentosa!
All of us met up punctually at the foyer, anxious to meet the fishes and animals in Sentosa Underwater World.
The bus ride took almost one hour, and it made us very tired.
However, we were energised immediately when we reached Sentosa. The gate to the wonderful world of sea animals!
Tickets were purchased for us to go to the Dolphin Lagoon where we watched an exciting performance put on by the Pink Dolphins. Take a look at the smart and cute looking dolphins!

It's time for our Master of Plants, a fellow member of ME Club's BRANDON CHIA'S ONE MINUTE LESSON ON PLANTS.

This week's one minute lesson on plants is on Pandan, a plant that can be found in our school's herbs and spice garden.

The flowers of Pandan is very rare, and is propagated by cuttings. Pandan is widely used in the cooking of Southeast Asian dishes. The leaves are long, narrow and bladelike with woody aerial roots. The leaves are also used as a flavoring for desserts such as pandan cake and sweet beverages.

In Indonesian, Pandan is known as pandan wangi. The leaves of the plant have a repellent effect on cockroaches.

How much do you know about Aloe Vera?
Here's a short introduction to it, many thanks to our member Brandon who spent his time researching!=)

Aloe vera is a species of Aloe, native to northern Africa. it is a stemless or very short-stemmed succulent plantgrowing to 80-100cm tall, spreading by offsets and root sprouts. The leaves are lanceolate, thick and fleshy, freen to grey-green, with serrated margin. The flowers are produced on a spike up to 90cm tall, each flower pendulous, with a yellow tubular corolla 2-3cm long.

Medicinal uses:
Aloe Vera has been used externally to treat various skin conditions such as cuts, burns and eczeme. it is alleged that sap from Aloe Vera eases pain and reduces inflammation. Evidence on the effects of Aloa Vera sap on wound healing.

Here's an another exciting excursion-Sentosa Flowers 2008!!!

Everyone gathered at the foyer and chatted excitedly about our anticipations of the day.

After what feels like eternity, the bus finally got moving- we're setting off!

here's the balloon which welcomed us as we went in...

We were greeted by an assortment of beautiful flowers. Some of us which had been feeling sleepy because of the long bus ride woke up immediately upon smelling the aroma coming from the flowers. Here are some pictures of the pretty flowers=]

We were pretty much busy taking pictures of the scenery before us and gawking at each and every plant that we went past.

As we went past more and more awe-strucking plants, we walked slower and slower, and spent more and more time taking pictures instead. ( Are you already lost in this flower maze?=D )

21012008, we set off for a exiciting learning journey to Chek Jawa...
Everyone met at the foyer early that day, energised and ready for action at Chek Jawa.

On the bus, everyone is excited and eager for the amazing trip that is up ahead...

Upon arriving at the Custom, we took a boat to Pulau Ubin.

Patiently waiting for the boat to arrive...

After we got off the boat, we got on the hired van drove by Mr Chai-we're now one step closer to Chek Jawa!

Here's a picture of Mr Bali, our tour guide for the day. Isn't he cute?>.^

Kind Mr Bali reminded us to appply insect repellent. However, it's okay if we don't apply insect repellent as the big wind will blow the mosquitoes away~~~

He introduced us to the beautiful natural environment where many insects and animals reside.

In this picture, Mr Bali is showing us the well which collects rainwater. The rainwater collected is used to bathe. It can also be drank!

As it was low tide when we visited the place, the crabs could be seen clearly. Can you spot the Fiddler Crab with one big and small pinces?

We went down to look at the sea creatures. Examples of sea creatures we saw were the Sand Dollar, Starfish, Seaball cucumber, Wild boar hole, Carpet Anemoni, and the list goes on...

Mr Bali bought us to a deep and muddy place. Look at Ms Neo's shoes!

After we're finally saved, we got back to dry land and walked back to our van.

What a long day! When we reached school again, it's already 7pm!
